Today’s era-defining interiors specialists merge architecture, design, art and craft to spectacular effect. What distinguishes their schemes is narrative: everything is part of a bigger story. Walls, floors, ceilings and staircases set the scene for the one-off pieces on display. This is the spirit of modernism, layered with personality – and here are five of the best international design names to watch in 2025.
Hannes Peer
In true northern Italian style, Hannes Peer moves with ease between the disciplines of architecture, interiors and furniture. He set up his studio in Milan in 2009 and is recognised for his architectural rigour, which combines craftsmanship and flair. He synthesises cultural and historical stories into his work – a process creating what he refers to as a “palimpsest”. His design interventions are show-stopping and his selection of furnishings fresh, whether custom-made or vintage. Peer brings his immersive approach to intimate residential spaces such as the Casa dei Giardini and Maison Prada in Milan and large-scale hospitality projects that include The Manner hotel in New York.

Pierre Yovanovitch
It’s not just black-rimmed spectacles and a mop of dark hair that invite comparisons between Pierre Yovanovitch and Yves Saint Laurent – the French interior designer has talent too. He brings a facility with line, shape and proportion to the tailoring of space.
