Many interior designers think of themselves as visual storytellers but Martin Goddard and Jo Littlefair – who founded their award-winning studio Goddard Littlefair 14 years ago – quite literally dream up fictional characters as a starting point when designing branded residences. “We think about what a person might be interested in; the colours, the forms, the shapes; how they might entertain; what’s on the shelves,” says Goddard. “Everything links together so you should walk in and feel a personality. I think it helps people envisage themselves living somewhere.”
It’s proven to be a winning formula: past global clients include residences at The Conrad and Belvedere Gardens, as well as hotels, spas, and restaurants. “We work a lot with branded residential throughout the world but we’re always looking at the location that we’re in and the building. We want all our designs to feel different: it’s not a cookie cutter approach,” explains Littlefair.
