MUNDY’S HOUSE

Mundy’s constitutes a sensitive fusion of architectural and interior design, within a carefully curated garden and landscape. Infinite and meticulous attention to detail is evident in both design and execution which provides proof of the symbiosis between the contemporary and traditional and the way interiors blend and smoothly integrate with the outdoors. The house nestles on the edge of the valley it surveys, with the driveway sweeping down to the quadrangle and stable courtyard. Beautifully crafted iron gates, mirroring the woods that surround the house, open to an internal courtyard. Centre stage is a striking fountain pool created by sculptor Simon Allison. The front door opens to a light filled central hallway. From here the ground floor flows seamlessly, one room to another, each making the most of the views beyond.

STAFF APARTMENT
Attached to the main house on the north-western side is a separate, fully self-contained staff apartment with a spacious kitchen diner, living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom.

RECREATION/GAMES OUTBUILDING
A timber-clad purpose-built recreation/games building is presently set up as an indoor golf simulator with its own kitchenette, living area and bathroom. A garage/machinery store is adjoining. Visitor parking for eight cars is provided behind the recreation/ games outbuilding.

QUADRANGLE AND STABLE YARD
Eight garages and an extensive workshop are arranged around an attractive timber clad quadrangle. An archway leads to the stable yard with five Monarch loose boxes, a horse solarium, tack room, groom and worker kitchenette, bathroom, commercial Miele washer and dryer and lots of storage.

GARDENS AND LAND
The gardens blend seamlessly into the pastoral landscape below and beyond, teeming with wildlife. Grass terracing slopes gently down to the lake, complete with duck houses and waterfowl pontoons. A wooden bridge spans the breath of the lake with a decked area to the northern end for relaxation and bird watching. Mown paths lead to the woodland, tennis court and four paddocks. Woodland borders the south and east elevations of the valley, which in springtime is carpeted with snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells with wildflowers populating the grassland and meadows. Mature beech, yew and mixed hedging define the boundaries,
gardens and woodland. A large terrace, barbeque area and Gazebo, accessed from the kitchen and dining and drawing rooms, creates a tranquil space from which to enjoy and admire the views and wildlife.
There are five further machinery sheds and workshop tucked away in the woods.

SITUATION
Hidden away deep within the beautiful South Downs National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Mundy’s is a perfectly curated, small country estate. A tucked away rural idyll, yet within easy striking distance of national roads and rail links via the M3 and Winchester mainline station.
Rich in folklore (Betty Mundy) and legend (Roman and Celtic antecedents), the beauty of the National Park, with its rolling chalk downland and wooded heaths, Mundy’s has long been an inspiration for generations of writers, artists and storytellers. The medieval market town of Bishops Waltham, winner of a “best place to live in the UK” award, under four miles away, has a weekly country market, Post Office, primary school, doctors’ surgery, dentist, optician, pharmacies, butcher, fishmonger, greengrocer and local supermarkets. Historic Winchester boasts a wealth of tourist destinations (Cathedral and King Arthur’s round table) and cultural
activities as well as pubs, restaurants, cafés, banks and shops. There are weekly markets and a choice of large supermarkets.
