About this property
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully refurbished farmhouse in one of the most sought-after locations in central Morzine. Situated on the historic Chemin de la Vieille Plagne, the property enjoys a peaceful and authentic setting while remaining just moments from the centre of the village and all its amenities.
Unlike many areas that underwent significant redevelopment during the expansion of tourism in the second half of the twentieth century, Chemin de la Vieille Plagne has retained much of its original Alpine character. Lined with traditional farmhouses and older chalets, it remains one of the most charming and tranquil addresses in central Morzine.
The Super Morzine cable car is just a four-minute walk away, providing fast and convenient access to the extensive Portes du Soleil ski area, while shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants are all within easy walking distance.
Impressive from the roadside and arranged over three levels, the property has been cleverly configured to provide a substantial five-bedroom main chalet alongside a superb independent two-bedroom apartment. Each has its own private entrance and can operate entirely independently, offering considerable flexibility for personal use or rental income. The current owner, for example, often retains the apartment during peak rental periods while letting the main chalet, maximising both personal enjoyment and rental returns.
Designed and completed by a renowned interior architect, the property combines traditional Alpine character with contemporary finishes and is presented in immaculate condition throughout.
The main chalet is entered on the lower level via a welcoming entrance hallway, with a practical utility area, separate ski and boot room with dedicated sports entrance, and a sauna with adjoining shower area. There is also a separate WC and access to a large basement storage area, providing excellent space for equipment and everyday storage.
The first floor forms the heart of the chalet, with a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area centred around an impressive fireplace. The fully equipped contemporary kitchen complements the generous entertaining space, while a separate cinema room provides an additional area in which to relax. A full-width balcony takes advantage of the panoramic mountain views. This level also includes two double bedrooms, a family bathroom and a separate WC.
On the second floor, vaulted ceilings enhance the sense of space and Alpine character. The principal bedroom benefits from an en-suite bathroom and private balcony, while a further double bedroom also opens onto a balcony. A third double bedroom, family bathroom and mezzanine area, currently arranged as a home office, complete this floor.
The independent apartment has its own private entrance and offers an open-plan kitchen and dining area together with a spacious sitting room. There are two double bedrooms, one of which also incorporates additional bunk beds, as well as a family bathroom. The apartment further benefits from a large independent cellar, providing ample storage for skis, bikes and other sporting equipment – an increasingly valuable feature for year-round Alpine living.
The property also benefits from on-street parking, together with two secure garages located within the neighbouring residence, providing valuable additional parking and storage in this highly sought-after central location.
Properties of this quality and character, combining such a central yet peaceful setting, are exceptionally rare. As well as providing a wonderful family home in the heart of Morzine, the chalet has a strong and established rental history, making it equally appealing as an investment opportunity.
Local information
- Morzine, in the Portes du Soleil, has become one of the most popular ski resorts in The Alps for families due to its proximity to Geneva airport (80km), relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere and access to 650km of pistes. The town has a wealth of shops, bars and restaurants and benefits from a recently built (2012) swimming and sports complex with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a patinoire.
- With 650km of slopes to enjoy across the Portes du Soleil, there is something to cater for all abilities; from the wide, groomed pistes in Les Gets and Mont Chery to the steeper more challenging slopes in Avoriaz and Chatel. Cross-border skiing is also on offer and the world famous “Swiss Wall” is a real challenge for expert skiers. In addition to the fantastic range of skiing available, the panoramic views are some of the most breath-taking in The Alps; the view of Mont Blanc from the top of the Chamossiere is simply stunning.
- Further to the popularity of the resort in the winter months, the Portes du Soleil offers an extensive list of summer activities including mountain biking, paraponting, mountaineering, golf, hiking and horse riding. Some of the lifts are open in the summer allowing access to the mountains throughout the year.
- The region continues to improve and update its infrastructure. The second half of the plan to facilitate and speed up access between Morzine and Avoriaz begins in 2019 with the construction of a new lift between Morzine town centre and Prodains, at the foot of Avoriaz. This fantastic addition to the region will allow far quicker access to the highest pistes in the ski area and demonstrates the Portes do Soleil’s intention to evolve and compete with other prime resorts.
