Why Invest in Norway
- Norway has become one of Europe’s most attractive markets for mountain property investment. The country offers exceptional stability, transparent regulations and a strong cabin culture that drives consistent demand. Strict planning rules protect mountain landscapes and limit new construction, making well-located homes in destinations like Geilo both rare and resilient in value.
- Norway’s reliable winter climate creates a long ski season from November to April, supported by modern lift systems, well-maintained slopes and extensive cross-country networks. Combined with a genuine fourseason outdoor lifestyle and easy access from Oslo Airport, Norway provides a secure, futureproof environment for international buyers seeking both lifestyle and long-term investment strength.
Geilo as a Destination
- Geilo is a charming and lively mountain village at the foot of Hardangervidda and Hallingskarvet. It offers a full yearround outdoor experience, while the vibrant town centre provides more than 40 shops, cafés and restaurants, including Hallingstuene, Smakeriet Beefbar, Highland Lodge Pizza and Á Tartiner Bakeri.
- A seventime winner of the World Ski Awards’ “Norway’s Best Ski Resort”, Geilo features 21 lifts and 45 runs, with slopes for beginners, families and advanced skiers. The resort spans both sides of the valley, connected by a ski bus service. Several ski schools and highquality rental facilities are available in the base areas.
- Cross-country enthusiasts enjoy over 500 kilometres of groomed trails in both the valleys and high mountain plateaus, with skiing often possible into June at higher elevations. Geilo is also the gateway to Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda National Parks, offering some of Norway’s finest crosscountry terrain.
- Winter activities extend far beyond alpine and Nordic skiing: dog sledding, fat biking, snowshoeing, ice karting, snowmobile safaris, horseback riding, ice fishing, saunas and ice bathing all form part of the winter offering. Kiting on Hardangervidda and ski touring towards Hallingskarvet provide world-class experiences for more adventurous guests.
- From June to October, Geilo becomes a hub for hiking, fishing and mountain biking. Trails range from family-friendly forest paths to demanding highmountain routes, all starting from around 800 metres above sea level. The area also offers excellent berry and mushroom picking and access to many lakes west of Kikut.
- Travel to Geilo is easy and scenic. The Bergen Railway takes around three hours from Bergen and three and a half from Oslo, with up to five departures daily. During the ski season, the Kikut bus connects the station to the upper mountain areas, including Solhovda. By car, National Road 7 offers the shortest route from both Oslo and Bergen and is one of Norway’s official national tourist routes, while County Road 40 provides access from the south.
- Geilo enjoys a snowsure season from early November to late April, offering consistently excellent conditions and making it a premier destination for winter sports enthusiasts.
