Winchester (7.8 miles) and Southampton (11.1 miles) have a wider range of shopping, leisure and cultural facilities.
- Immediately west of Twyford the M3 provides access to London and the national motorway network. Regular trains leave from Winchester station to London Waterloo, the journey taking approximately 58 minutes.
- Winchester and the surrounding area have an excellent selection of independent schools: at preparatory level, Pilgrims, Twyford and Prince’s Mead, whilst at senior level St Swithun’s School for Girls and Winchester College are all highly regarded. There are several well-known state schools and colleges in the area, including Peter Symonds Sixth Form College in Winchester.

There are several golf courses in the area including East Horton, Botley, Corhampton and a number around Winchester. The area is well known for its chalk stream fishing, with the River Itchen, Meon and Test all nearby. Sailing and other water sports are available on the River Hamble, Southampton Water and the Solent.
